Spey/Swing

Playing the Long Game

Spey fishing with a two handed rod is an art all of its own. It was originally conceptualized by anglers who needed a method of casting across large spans of river body without back-casting, due to their environment’s river banks being littered with trees and other foliage. From that original concept multiple branches of this method have arisen and today, they span from Skagit, Switch and Scandi – to a handful of other unique tactics developed around the world. Here at the WFC, we’ve applied them to trophy trout.

We’re now offering educational opportunities to get introduced to this branch of the sport through our spey clinics, as well as advanced clinics for experienced spey anglers who would like to apply this technique to trophy trout. Call, text or drop us an email with any questions or to book today!

Seasons

Year Round
Through the Fall, much of the pre-cold-season fever has infected the river and large, meat eating trout are typically primed to eat a swung fly. This ambition carries through to the winter months when the water becomes cold and days grow shorter. Our techniques change slightly through those colder months but, as the Spring approaches, more conventional methods of two-handed fishing become the norm again. Rolling into summer, the depths and methods change drastically however, there is much opportunity to be had for the spey angler.
