The Spruce fly can be modified a few ways, either way, this thing is a tried and true classic! It certainly proved that during a recent trout spey trip with fellow Wyomingite, Rick! This fly is older than dirt and most guides these days probably have no clue what it is.. This is an OG fly…it never fails. Trout, steelhead or any salmonoid will eat it. Swung, stripped or dead drifted, it’ll get the job done.

Spruce Fly trout spey fishing

As the clouds rolled in that cold June day up Rick and I (it snowed a little on us…) fish wanted more contrast and more iridescent…it was the Spruce’s time to shine, this thing got ate by countless fish while Rick was earning Snap T’s, and single/double spey. Great way to change this up around here and get ready for Alaska.
