March is here, along with the wind and a record month for guide trips this months. We are nearing 40 scheduled trips this month…must be doing something right! None of which are on the Big Horn, shameful how all the guides flock there in the spring. We send all our trips to LOCAL outfits in Thermopolis, we are better than that. Just to clarify the rumors. If you’re looking for a great experience over there, call John Schwalbe of Wyoming Adventures or Chris Ryan of Big Horn Guide Service. They’ll take the best care of you money can buy on the Horn!
March browns
Snowpack is about 94-95% here on the upper Green River Basin. Not ideal, but better than most drainages across the American Rockies. I expect the fishing to remain good all summer, with some dog days mid August through mid September. Our current guide trips have been going great, fish are eating the same stuff…streamers and nymphs. We even had some dry fly fishing recently. Fancy that!?! Winter Stones and midges have been on the move, the fish have been after them. Rainbows will be spawning soon…so be on the lookout it you’re considerate of the resources and don’t need to inflate your ego. Anybody can catch a spawner… no challenge there. If you bang beds, shame on you. You’re probably stepping on the eggs anyhow. So do us all a favor and let the spawners be. Thanks!
