Surely you can see it and, this Wyoming Spring-season fishing report is only a supplement to the obvious. The patches of mud and gravel in the driveway where the thick blanket of hard packed snow and ice is swiftly losing its campaign of frozen tyranny against the rebelling Spring season. The days are getting longer, the weather warmer and the equinox is only days away. Soon the triumphant summer sun will arrive to claim its throne in the Western Wyoming sky; however, between now and then, some of the best fishing the Rockies have to offer can be found on the home waters of the WFC.

If you’ve known our outfit for a while, you can probably imagine what the boys have been up to for the past month. If there’s open water, they’re on it, putting in the oar strokes and soaking up the intel. When you come out for a wild trout hunt, you can do so with peace of mind, knowing that your guide has been putting in the work, and has got the bugs & knowledge to line you out for success.

Speaking of your wild trout hunt, are you on the books yet? Our summer schedule is filling in rapidly but, there’s still a few boats available, sporadically throughout the peak of season. Prior to peak-season however, you might consider coming out for a Spring trip. Our special winter pricing is in effect through the month of March! The boys have been sending it on the early season water and the fishing has been incredible. Ryan, Kurt and Tristan have been running a handful of their regular dudes over the past few weeks and have all reported a steady and consistent eatery. The fish are veracious, hard fighting and very heavy. Call the outfit and get on one of the guy’s boats!

Hardwater

As the lake begins to warm, the fish are beginning to move a bit more and we’re seeing a lot of action under the ice using our LiveScopes and AquaView Cameras. We’re finding the fish to be a bit more selective and a bit of a gap between their feeding windows but, when the bite is on, it’s on chaotically. There’s still a couple weeks of good ice fishing to be had! The boys have been reporting 18”-20” of solid surface on our home lakes and they’ve had a couple productive days as of late. Our local ice guide Erik has been on the hardwater non-stop and he’s getting the late season eat dialed in well. Give Ryan a call and see what he can do to fit you into Erik’s schedule. Additionally, you can get to know Erik and all of our guides on the BIO page. See it here

Open Water – Lake Trips

As we roll into the season, with break-up and turnover in the near future, the boys at WFC are readying their lake boats! This is a new venue offering we’ve been working on and, the coming ice-off is going to be a hot time to be here. Throughout the season, the lakes provide. We’re excited to be able to offer this trip. Hunt for big Macs, trophy Trout and Kokanee from the comfort of our large watercraft. We’re sad to see the hardwater season coming to an end but, we are VERY excited for the coming open water. Call the outfit and book your lake trip today!

Jackson Hole

We’re headed north! We have secured permitting to guide the Snake River and we are currently booking Spring trips, with many of our regulars already booked through April! This trip is an iconic one, as it winds through some of the most scenic wildland, with the intent of targeting pure fine spotted Cuttys in their native drainage – as they eat big bugs on the surface. This is genuine fly fishing in its most nostalgically poetic form and, it comes with an attribute of utility as well! If your ambitions are to complete the Cutt-Slam this year, a Spring trip on the Snake would be a great start! (And if you need a little help rounding up the hardest of the four species to find, drop us a line. We’ve got the drop on Bonnies). Learn more about the Wyoming Cutt-Slam here. We’ll be running these trips in the Spring, as well as the Fall. Stay tuned for more details, as they develop.

Finally

Snowpack is over 100% which, considering the few storm fronts we’ve seen this year, is something to be grateful for. See the data here. This should lead to a lasting flow throughout the basin so, thank a water development worker the next time you see them!

If you’re not a resident of Wyoming here’s a reminder to be sure to grab your fishing license before you head out to meet your guide! There’s very little cellular service in the wild places we fish and, even fewer accommodations. Your best bet is to grab a license on the WG&F’s online portal. Find it here

Lastly, to all our patrons – new and old – thanks so much for your continued support. We LOVE what we do and who we do it for. We’re looking forward to seeing you all in the coming days!
