101% Snowpack

We go into February with renewed hope that our winter will sustain, after a long and dry January. The recent storm cycle Brought our basin wide snowpack up to 101%. Both upper and lower Green River basins are at 101%. Prior to this storm, our snowpack was at 78%. It’s fascinating what one storm can do.

We got out on the first day of 2025 open water yesterday and boy was it nice! What a sweet taste of river fishing season. It was somewhere in the 40s ( felt like 75F), snow was melting and fish were eating! WFC Guides Jake, Kurt, Erik and myself (Ryan) got out on a dead calm day and had the place to ourselves. Today, the wind howls at 30-40mph, temps are much cooler, blowing snow and another storm cycle coming Friday, and another on radar for next week, aided with the bitter cold of teens and lows to the negatives. This is just what we needed! I feel like we will come out of February with a great snowpack.

2025 Wyoming Guided Ice Fishing

2025 Wyoming Guided Ice Fishing

We are anxiously looking forward to the hard water season here at the Wyoming Fishing Company as our fall lake and  river fishing enters its last few weeks. Our reservoirs are currently fishing good and the fish are in great shape, giving us great prospects for the winter ice fishing season here in Wyoming.  November and December we still fish the lakes when we can on the open water until they “cap” over and offer safe ice, around Christmas each year is usually when we see the safest ice

If you haven’t tried a guided ice fishing trip, you should! We offer full day and half day ice fishing adventures. The half day trip is less than 15 minutes from Pinedale and is on a private pond, stocked with fish! Our full day trips are geared more for the adventure seeker in mind, spending most of the day on the frozen lake.

Ice Fishing is a great family activity for just a couple or a large group. Beginner friendly. We catch lake trout, rainbow, brown, brook, cutthroat and Kokanee salmon on our ice fishing trip. For more information about our guided Wyoming ice fishing tours, CLICK HERE

Cost: Guide, sonar, heated ice hut and Tackle included on all trips.

Fall fishing and gunning

Fall fishing and gunning

We are enjoying the nice fall of warmer temps and sunny days, What a great time to be on the water. Trips are slowing down, which is nice. We are all catching up with duties before winter hits and we are outfitting the winter activities. The fishing has been productive lately, with a couple big ones. We have a salmon run this year, which is encouraging after last year. Not a lot, but better than last year. Good quality of fish roped in on both streamers and nymphing.

August Rains

WHEW!!! Summer flew by! We are finally catching up after 2 months of quite the grind. We had a short and sweet push of water, then things levels off. The surface fishing was as good as it always is and still is good! We roped a good number of large fish. The 25″ fish wasn’t a daily occurrence…but it wasn’t uncommon in the guide boats here at the Wyo Fish Co.

BROWN TROUT FLY FISHING

BROWN TROUT WITH WYO FISH CO

We have been blessed with the cooler temps and rains during the first two weeks in August. Flows are low, but fortunately, we are getting cold nights and rain on almost a daily basis. Fish have been eating hoppers, beetles, flying ants and other various attractors. Streamer fishing has been good at the right time on the right days.

We look forward to more rain and cooler temps going into the rest of August. Mahogany duns have begun and fall two fishing isn’t far! We have availability in the next two weeks for anyone who would like to come out. We have spots for beginners all the way to challenging venues for the experienced angler. Walk wade or float trips.

We are booking fall waterfowl hunts as well, Ever done a Cast N Blast? You should! We have some fun hunts any wing shooter would enjoy, field or water, ducks or geese.

2023 WFC gunning

Starting November 1, we getting out “Winter Special” guided float trips. Full day float, 1-2 anglers for $450 if you book before October. We guide these trips every year until the snow gets too tough to deal with. Some years, we guide the river into December. These are popular trips, every year! The weather is usually great and the fish still eat well.

Trophy Brown Trout May 2024

Congrats to long time patron of the WFC and friend, Derek on an incredible brown boated on a WFC guide trip last week. Derek has spent many hours on the Green and dollars with us and it was his turn to hit payday, again. More than 26″, but not quite 27″. Not too shabby.

The Fishing has been, well…fishing. This place is an anglers river. Not for the faint of heart, nor spoiled anglers that complain when they don’t get 20-40 fish a day. This is fishing. Not catching. I shouldn’t have to say that, but it appears some folks need to hear it. Throw some 20-30mph winds in the mix and you’ll have a good ole fashioned rodeo. This place is the last, greatest trout venue in the American West, if not the world, but it’s not for everybody.  Some folks need to catch a lot of fish in a day to feel good about themselves, if that’s you…dont’ call us.

Flows are expected to max out at 4500cfs towards the latter half of this month. Probably won’t be for long…then the long summer hits. Guides Jake, Jax, Kurt, Tristan and Ryan have been finding a good mix of rainbows, browns, cutthroat and whitefish. We are lucky to catch so many beautiful fish, daily! We are in the middle of a classic, windy spring here in Western Wyoming. Good fishing and some personal bests’ for those who want it!

On the long summer note, we are beginning our late night, rodent fishing operations now and preparing for some hosted Mousing/Rodent Trips in August and Sept. We provide the camp, tackle and guides…just get here! Limited availability, contact us directly for specifics.

We have availability this summer if you haven’t gotten your dates on our schedule! Give us a call!

Spring Fishing Report- Pinedale & Fontenelle

Spring Fishing Report- Pinedale & Fontenelle

All the rivers are open and the WFC team is all over it, top to bottom..with some good results!  We have fed fish dry flies, streamers and nymphs this month and seen some quality fish hitting the net.

We are picking up with work, but still have some available dates if the rights ones are desired. We are definitely hitting more bigger fish than usual, so you should get on our schedule if you aren’t already.

Snowpack for the Green River basin is right at 100% this year, while basin wide snow to water equivalent is at 94%. Good thing! We are warming up nicely, but could use one more big storm before everything starts turning Green.

The flows at Fontenelle dam are at 689 cfs. For more flow data out of Fontenelle Dam, look here. Not exactly what we, or the spawning rainbows had in mind, but it is what it is. Fish quality and size has been great this year, despite the lower flows.

We have new private water this year, along with some killer new access for walk wade trips and boat launches. Thesevate boat launches play a pivotal role in keeping us in front of everyone else, competitors included. Another reason to spend a day in the boat with one of our guides!

Our friends over at Laughing Bear Outfitters/Shuttles are doing River shuttles this year in the Pinedale, Kendall Valley, Big Piney and Labarge areas, along with  taking custom rod orders for next winter. Check them out or give them a call at (720) 900-4307 for shuttle info or custom fly rods.
